Context. After attending PMDojo to learn Fullstack Product Management. I was given the opportunity via referral for a Product Manager position with GitHub.
The Problem. A new legislation passes in the United States requiring the use of real (legal) names on internet properties, instead of user handles. You have been asked to help GitHub and users of GitHub meet these requirements, and come up with a plan for executing this. How would you go about scoping the problem, developing a solution, and rolling it out to users?
The Goal
In order to cooperate with the law, Github needs to solve the problem of how to meet the requirements of using real (legal) names on internet properties.

Looking at the main parts from the beginning to the end.
Outlining the different problems that may come from enacting the new US legislation.

Identifying some of our key users and stakeholders that will be either apart or impacted by this decision.
Through product discovery: crafted an outline of identified solutions to implement.

GitHub is based on open source — we would not stop short of being transparent with our Customers.
GitHub should also protect itself from legal issues that may come from fraud and identity theft.

GitHub must take into account inactive customers. How we continue to solve for problem spaces against challenges.
Laying out our groundwork for…
- Upholding GitHub’s standards on policies…
- Reminding customers where GitHub stands…
- The new process to support our current… and
- new customers.

GitHub’s Developers will connect and test a separate database that will store the new data from the data collection form and from our current login page.
Sending via email a reminder to GitHub’s blog post on “GitHub and the CCPA” (California Consumer Privacy Act) — regarding data collection.

GitHub will push any new changes that we may have for GDPR.
Executing how we accomplished complying with the new U.S. Legislation in a 3 step process.

New customers joining GitHub will follow the 2 step process. Keep GitHub compliant from the start.
Our Northstar…
…is achieved when 100% of customers have complied with the new US legislation.
